With support from Green Industries SA’s Business Sustainability Program, the Spencer Gulf and West Coast Prawn Association (SGWCPA) have launched Pathways to Net Zero – a guide to support members in adopting more sustainable practices to achieve net zero.

Funded through GISA’s Lead-Educate-Assist-Promote (LEAP) Grant and delivered by 2XE, the project supported SGWCPA member engagement in pursuing greenhouse gas emissions reduction and environmental sustainability improvements as a way of generating long-term environmental, economic and social benefits for both the industry and the Spencer Gulf and West Coast region.

The guide includes educational materials, case studies and key opportunities for the sector, including refrigeration system overhaul, LED lighting upgrades, engine replacement at end-of-life, hull modification/extension, and sustainability criteria for purchased goods and services.

It presents consensus among the prawn fishing industry for shared goals and to identify opportunities to include sustainable practices in business-as-usual operations that are cost-effective whilst optimising the life of resources.

Fisheries in Port Lincoln are recognised globally as some of the best-managed in the world, and SGWCPA has a reputation for leading the way in fisheries management. This guide will see South Australia continue to lead the way for the industry, and will ultimately help the state move towards its goal of achieving net zero.
