Green Industries SA is partnering with local councils and charities to help South Australians donate their unwanted, high-quality clothing, and recycled their old, worn-out linens.

On Saturday 24 May, several drop-off points (locations to be confirmed) will be open for residents to drop off their unwanted textiles.

What items will be accepted at the drop-off sites?

Clothing and footwear

All types of clothing and footwear that is unworn and unwanted, but still in good enough condition to be worn, can be dropped off at any of the sites (locations to be confirmed).

South Australians are encouraged to drop off unwanted clothing and footwear items that are still in good enough condition to be worn.

Household linens

All types of pure and blended polyester and cotton household linen, in any condition, can be dropped off at any of the sites (locations to be confirmed).

This includes:

  • bathroom linen,such as:
    • face cloths
    • hand towels
    • bath towels and sheets
  • bed linen,such as:
    • bed sheets (flat and fitted)
    • quilt and doona covers
    • pillow cases 
    • bedspreads
  • kitchen linen,such as:
    • tea towels
    • napkins
    • table cloths.

What items won't be accepted at the drop-off sites?

Items that will not be accepted include:

  • clothing and footwear in poor condition – if you wouldn't give it to a friend or family member, it isn't in good enough condition to be donated
  • doonas and pillows
  • mattresses and mattress protectors
  • wool blankets
  • bath mats with a backing
  • microfibre or any kind of dish or cleaning wipes/cloths.

Does the items have to be clean?

Yes, all items must be clean to be accepted.

Household linens that have been used as paint drop sheets will be accepted if they've been cleaned after use.

Can the household linen items have tears/rips?

Household linen items that have been torn or damaged will be accepted.

Please note that clothing and footwear items that show any damage will not be accepted. These items must be in a wearable condition.

Where will the collected clothing go?

Collected clothing and footwear will be sorted and then sent to various charitable organisations for resale.

Where will the collected household linen go?

Collected linen is first taken to Bedford SA, SA’s largest employer for people with a disability, to be sorted and decommissioned. After all buttons, zips and other non-recyclable items have been removed, the linen is transported in trucks to be shredded and then delivered to BlockTexx's state-of-the-art facility in Loganholme, Queensland for recycling.
